SHOW NOTES

Welcome back to another exciting episode of Bluey and the Bible! In Episode 12, we are tackling the infamous grade school project: taking home the class pet.

Bingo brings home a stuffed bilby named Bob, expecting a weekend full of fun family adventures to document for her class book. However, the Heelers run into a hilariously relatable snag—the entire family is glued to their screens. After snapping photos of Bob watching cartoons in the car and playing mindless tablet games, Bingo makes a tragic discovery: this is the most boring time Bob has ever had!

To save the weekend, Bandit ditches the digital devices, busts out an old Polaroid camera from when he "used to be cool," and leads the family on an epic, screen-free bike ride to the park.

In this episode, we unpack the very real struggle of screen time in modern parenting and how easily it can take over our lives. We dive into how our screen habits can actually reveal what our hearts truly treasure, drawing on timeless wisdom from verses like Luke 12:34 and Psalm 90:12. Join us for some honest confessions, practical tips, and plenty of laughs as we discuss how to put down the phones and intentionally redeem the time with our kids.

Tune in to hear the full discussion—and to find out why you should definitely know the difference between an Australian wallaby and a bilby!

Hey everybody welcome to another episode of And the Bible We did it. I knew we could do it remember when we promised that we would generate more regular content This is the Pollock we're apologizing for not being men of our words in this situation and perhaps it was to ambitious of a promise We're supposed to under promise an over deliver we have over promised and under delivered But we're here tonight with you and we're so glad to be back and recording this episode. So I say We kick this thing. Let's kick this pig. Let's go Yes, the beautiful thing is that we are doing it right now and that is one more thing for you guys to listen to so We're thankful to have the time to get this done We left off with episode 11 just rolling through those episodes. So now we're making it to episode 12 Slowly but surely like like the tortoise who we know does win the race Eventually did you just spoil earlier that whole children's story? Oh No What if they haven't read it yet? No The tortoise it's done don't even read the story now you know it ends up so sorry Don't be it don't get distracted and stay on task and you'll get a lot more done than the person who gets something's unfast but doesn't stay on task I asked the moral of the story I'm trying to find now. I'm trying to find the book that we had when we were kids. I Don't know why you don't you don't remember we had that book Mom had that book. Oh, I'd absolutely remember having it, but like I don't remember what It was this just the same story. Well, yeah, no it was the same story. I was trying to find the cover of it Yeah, I don't see the cover in my mind. So like that one didn't grab me. I guess like maybe it grabbed you did the tortoise have a little Train engineer hat on Okay, I'm gonna stop Tortoise to have a train engineer Final send you a screenshot of the thing I'm looking at this is really this is such good audio This is such good audio for everybody that's listening He's gonna send me a screenshot to see if it's the book we had his children Mind you there is a seven-year gap So let's just say not all of our childhood childhood maps all over top of one another Are you a screen you're not doing it good? I already sent it to you. It's in signal Everyone uh signal non-isponsors should be uh protect yourself from from invading piracy pirate privacy pirates privacy piracy pirates private private private private private rits I don't know that I mean yes, this this cover does look familiar. I don't know. I'm having a I don't know It didn't stick with me like Alexander the no good horrible very bad day. Oh, yeah, awful terrible horrible no good very bad day Didn't stick with me like that or the one where you overfeed the fish. That's a classic I Remember that one with the overfeed the goalfish Uh, I don't remember the details. I remember the name of the book. Yeah Okay, all right. Well anyway, dude. We should start a third podcast where we go through childhood books Talk about something everyone doesn't want to be another or leave podcast This is not gonna be a quarterly podcast. We're going to work hard The miracle is disapping at all. This is an intensely busy season With just Jesse's for trape, even particularly Um, it's it's crazy, but we're thankful Anyway, episode 12 is entitled Bob Bilby Bob Bilby good job. At some point during this episode, I will call Bill Bo baggins It just comes out Bobby. Bobby Bilboocans Bobby Bilbo Frodo Samwise how did he get here? Anyway um Bob Bilby So we'll do our we'll just we're back in the segments baby. We're just like we never missed a beat So for real life The real life of Bob Bilby This is the infamous class pet or in modern times because of you know The sad mortality rate of class pets What they are moved around so often anyway The class pet or stuffed animal it's a traditional project in grade school classrooms the world over The idea being that there is a class book that students contribute to by taking care of the said class pet slash stuffed animal In the case of a live animal the real challenge is just kind of maintaining life Seeping keeping it the class pet for the year Yeah, how many turtles do we go through um But in bluey it's a stuffed wallaby and that wallaby's name is Bob Bilby I'd like to correct you right there. It is not a wallaby. It's not a wallaby. It is a bilby it uh A bilby is a long-eared rabbit like marsupial found in Australia Is it like a wallaby? No, it would be kind of like a bunny mixed with a rat I Would send you a picture, but you won't look at it It looks very much like the stuffed animal All right, so we use we use a video visual format for us to record makes an easy way space for us to come together on That was me taking a ther's great shot But we record on you know the audio separately, but I would just he says screen share I figure he's just gonna pop it up on our little videos You know I can do that I can do that But see and then we can share in the Laughter together, but now you will be the clicker. There you go. No, there you go. That's a bilby. Oh Oh of that see And it looks like the thing it looks like that it's literally I Apologies everybody Bob bilby is a bilby and I'm I'm a bad person really you're I Literally had googled it because I'm like I'm pretty sure a bilby is an animal See here's my here's my problem because another childhood book I read was the National Geographic Big Book of mammals I had that thing memorized I was I was So Anyway I'm just I'm sad that I messed that up. I feel like I can't even go on anymore. I'm just leaving Can we just say Australia has weird animals? And most of them they the whole nation at the end of the day. It's wildlife just wants to kill you Just wants to kill you while you Touch the being or eating or walking. It just wants to kill you But all right Bob bilby is a bilby you dummy. I'm sorry. I apologize to everyone And Carrying on so but in blueie it's a stuffed bilby named Bob he's Bob a bilby Bob the bilby Bob the bilby Bob bilby The bilby is not as big as what she is is existence It's supposed to be an opportunity to really take the bilby you know on like actual adventures How will this go for bingo and the rest of the healer family? That's for for real life for real life And and it's this is I feel like we can all relate to this like this is a classic thing that happened in many many people's Childhoods. I believe we had something like this with a stuffed animal obviously because Smart teachers are like yeah, we don't need to kill seven frogs this year We're just gonna go ahead and let you just go ahead and You have to pick something slow that you know, it could die and no one would know it's like a snail If we have a pet snail You know if it if it dies, you know, you just like have to convince that child to lie to the other children and buy another snail because I mean, it's a snail, you know like You draw you draw a star in a shell and then any snail could be that snail and you know, you don't have to cry too hard because Again, it was a snail But nonetheless, I thought the idea of doing it with like a puppet that you took home. I thought that was actually a pretty ingenious idea Yeah, because you can make the puppet literally do anything and also like never die Yes, but as we know sadly for many classrooms it can be lost What was that movie didn't make it didn't they make a movie about a class was like a turtle Didn't we watch it? Yeah, there was a class pret that was a turtle and the lizard He got all yet It was a lizard it was a lizard played by Adam Sandler. I think voice the lizard. Yes Yeah, it was a Netflix it was a Netflix ship movie. I think it was it we're okay We're doing a blueie podcast if you don't get your mind right. Yeah, it was called Leo I'm gonna come over there and kick you in your rear end It was a really interesting generation pipe movie Yeah, it was really interesting generation type movie Anyway, the favorite bits of our episode there's a bunch in fact there's some favorite bits actually like I actually marked them off and With a little fb in the other portions and our other segments Like the trificalty and the dollar bucks, but just a few of the favorite bits The first word comes after kind of just getting the lay of the land and immediately Bob Billby those billbees you got to watch out for them. He just can't be trusted and He goes after dad's a little snack here My Dad He knows karate Kalf of that he knows karate Oh, man, it's fun because it's a puppet so you can do it every one And he goes after his little like burrito-ish-looking egg roll Yeah generic possible food It's great. This is probably the next bit is like truly my favorite bit because I just so Relate to this bit. I think we should just Play it and it is the classic like kids riding on your back like you're at horse or a cow or whatever and Yeah, I relate to this exact clip in the blue episode so much Oh That's sad That's the sound I ended trying to crawl He's gonna roll He's a lot of yeah, it doesn't matter same sound. I made the same sound on a rug doesn't matter But kids can crawl and feel no pain like I don't know how god wire them that way. It's it's pretty I don't because sin Sin degenerates. It's a degeneration like yawning. It's just a mystery Fools well yawning is a psychosomatic You know what I'm almost bitter that even brought up yawning because now you know Yeah, it's totally psychosomatic dude you moron I'm not gonna do it. I'm gonna fight fight the yon fight the yon Um still talking but yeah My knees hurt dude my knees hurt every time I watch like Yeah, I see him crawling with that with it was bingo on his back. I'm like, yep. Yep. That's it Uh, this this next one tell areas because it's like just feels real uh, they're driving in a car and uh, the kids have a demand to make in the car and it just Just it just feels this is what's the great thing about blue. It just feels like real Like real life. So they're driving in the car and um They They want uh, they want a screen. It's just like All right, there you go The folding The total folding It's a fact Ton of holding He just hands up. He hands him the tablet Just hands up the tablet. It's like oh my gosh, please stop Stop yelling. I just want to just want to make it to the store without wanting to murder everyone in the car Uh, the next one's it next one's also bandit and it's the same issue with screens and he tries to interject but We'll talk about this a little later, but there's a problem as he tries to interject but it's still quite humorous and also feels Sadly real in real life Kids it's enough of that thing Yeah Whatever whatever Whatever But you can't see his is bandit literally laying on the couch on his phone while the kids are on the ground watching a tablet Barely looks up barely looks up to tell him to stop Oh my gosh, and then this green means oh gosh, I can't I can't fight him. I can't fight him again Oh It's classic classic these are all I mean some of these are sad, but like also like they're funny because it's like oh I've been there. I feel I feel it. I'm right there. I'm right there with bandit, you know like Right there with a chili in the car like let's play car games Give me the screen around kill something possibly myself. Oh It's like oh no Oh, all right, those are favorite this that's favorite bits This takes us to our next segment where we get to hear our first unicorns bit And this right now we enter the difficulty this is difficult. Oh Oh, yeah, biscuits. That's right That's right. That's right unicorns. We're gonna get to your episode in six years. So Someday So it is in the difficulty. We're really wanted to lay it out so the trouble called these clear This first little first little clip from the episode and I know a lot of this episode actually ends up being kind of Not inherently good for audio, but with some some describing we could do it this first this first clip where they lay out What the premise of like the Bob Bob Bilby's book is is very is very clear So like you get a real feel for what Bob's Bob Bilby's books all about Um as As being go in the family sit down to look at this book and figure out what their role is to play in the Bob Bilby book I got it. I got it First Bob stays with us for the weekend and we take photos of all the fun stuff we get up to and then we stake them in the Bob Bilby book This is Bob at just I mean, I was gonna let him let him describe all the things Bob Bilby did You cut it off at 133 And this is with Holly Oh you did a bit of karate Bob Oh what could do I won't be messing with you What could do Oh yes, she took Bob with her when she went to Scotland wow Bob you've really been around I hope we can show you a good time too What are you ready for? Yeah, that's good. Yeah, that's good. All right. Yeah This is so wholesome all the things he's done with other class other students other classmates of bingo It's really nice and also Why don't I work work the word wackadoo into my general vocabulary? I need to get wackadoo going We need more wackadoo in our vocabulary everyone I think it's a fact. Oh, wackadoo Um, but then the difficulty really unfolds And so we'll try to do this little rapid fire, but this you're gonna hear a sound in all these clips and the sound is the important part Um of what's being captured. It's the classic cell phone shutter sound Um, and and if we play we'll play we'll do it one clip at a time with little explanation and it lays out the Chifaculty even though a lot of it is not gonna be helpful for audio because it's a visual medium Oh You're doing great Doing too many things at once. Bob this is the tablet you can take photos with it and watch cartoons and play games They're so Bob that game where you do stunts is being a haircut. Yeah Oh Not too long on that kids Kill it. Yeah, so you heard the classic shutter sound And you got bandit and he's laying on the ground on his phone and the kids are explaining the tablet to Bob Billby and then they play that Why are there so many mindless cell phone games that minus cell phone game where you can like cut somebody's hair You know, oh my gosh so painful But you know, it's like you know you can power wash stuff. You can you can hair cut stuff You know all these things that you can do so they're showing the the showing bill Bob billby that and at the same time dad's laying on the floor next to them Also on his phone and then mom walks by and that's when you hear the classic phone shutter sound the camera phone shutter sound Taking pictures taking pictures for the memory book Yep that memory book is gonna fill up and so we got some screen time photo right there It takes us to our next clip real short real short to sing a little clip Um, we're again listen listen for the camera for the The photo Cam the camera app shutter sound Somebody help me Oh man got him again and this is right after they were screaming for cartoons They're screaming for cartoons in the car mom pops up that selfie mode Snaps another photo of more screen time next earth am all Doing what I don't know whenever I went to like Walmart as a kid. I would always stare at the big giant screens They were just cool. Oh my gosh you get lost because you know what was right next to the screens all the games Video games They put all the screens in one spot how convenient for us to get another little Shutter sound It's mom watching It's so good So out of you expected to be banned it, but it's chilly standing next to them She's watching the play field hockey on this big giant TV's right next to Our next to the kids program and there's bandit Snapping that photo so we got another screen time Photograph sadly for the book and then just for for good measure One more listen for that listen for that little shutter of of the the final Screen time photo for the what could potentially be Sorry, I jumped the gun. No, that's fine Oh There it is that's the last one and that's chilly catching a picture after that favorite bit So favorite Whatever and she catches bandit and the and the sisters get again on screen screen time Was a big factor in this episode When this leads us to the the the culmination of the difficulty moms like oh no I see what's happening here And this is going to be another audio just very audio visual But there's sounds in this one so listen to the sounds There it is Was that it mom yeah, which is the sound the sound of mom going in the office and making sure she prints out these photos in a hurry Because we need that to be photo that to be going and at least right into the the real difficulty Because now moms gonna put all these screen time photos in the book and we're gonna have A harsh realization Take over the family and this is a harsh realization I do want to say when we get to the dollar box that we should all kind of connect with So let's uh let's let's listen. Let's listen to the culmination of our Photographs Oh These are just all the ball watching cartoons Oh wow Oh wow That's it man Oh That moment when you realized that you Ruined the fun thing that you thought that you were doing is fun and then you realized it wasn't fun because you weren't doing the actual fun things Uh, it's that's a hard that's a hard way to carry as a kid We've all been there too like it's it's definitely that you're a lesson adult and we realize we've wasted time just On something meaningless like every day um oh my gosh Wasting time is the worst as an adult Selling society's driven Yes, because we all know as adults the thing the kids don't always realize is that We know we don't have time look kids like they have the whole world in time and we're like we have no time All those minutes and hours wasted marching to their own mortality I love I love bandage reaction like oh boy Yeah, it's like yeah, he felt it too right there That's right there he sees the problem it is in front of him. It is all the screws and this leads me to a favorite bit that really culminates the the tripliculty Uh, and from the mouth of babes right tell tell tell the i tell can we rely on children to tell us the honest truth Whether we want it or not even if they don't read the room when they say it this is This is a very good little clip Are you all right? Because this is the most boring time balls had in the whole book Now that's not true kiddo Yeah, it is Yeah, it is Definitely Bluey bluey just covered in with that. Oh no, Bob. It's she's right. It is absolutely the most boring time That Bob Bilby has had um And bad That realization is so key and important And that takes us to the dollar books Oh, I should As you the question say oh, wait, should I care? Um, and here's why you should care because the the dollar box moments are the realization That we have wasted time on our screens And so it culminates in this beautiful little moment where they're sitting there as a family like all right Looks like we got some work to do Okay, let's sort this out. What's the best move right now? I know Bob just cookies whatever it is we do And the only is we boring stuff So all we need to do is we excited stuff Yeah Oh, wait wait wait, it's so good This is all my stuff from when I used to be cool Would I used to be cool? This is what a real camera looks like That's so good It's this is all my stuff and when I used to be cool Pulls out of Polaroid It's a box of trash like it's beyond his guys like our boxes of what when we used to be cool Is just trash is all trash is so validated finally after years of that box sitting doing nothing that he can finally pull something out Got an idea kids. I used to be cool check this out They don't even know what it is. What is that? I mean pulls out essentially a polar word camera So they hide they hide away the screens no more screens and they grab a good old fashioned Polaroid camera And that takes us just the immediate next clip which is also a favorite bit Mom knows exactly what to do Are you ready Bob? All right, so you know it's at the seat The garage door goes open and there's this dramatic sunlight pours in and it's mom with her bike She says all so tree are you ready Bob? Kids are like oh Then it's just gaping and it takes a picture And it's just gaping with the camera and it takes a picture of us so so funny Bluey just gets us it gets us it gets adult to get kids it gets us man So they're gonna go in this epic bike ride and they're gonna take this this bike ride to redo all of these These pictures and they're gonna go to the park on their bike trip and they're gonna play on all of all of the The different park implements and they're having so much fun and it ends in this really great. I think this is really an audio Audio-driven like scene. It's really good for you to get the feel for how they culminate their day Now that they've realized that screens were a problem So awesome and it's like fireworks they get a little fireworks show The fireworks are just exciting every time I just love fireworks. Yeah fireworks are great as long as you don't have a dog with you Yeah dogs can be problematic with fireworks, but um Also, you know, I can be excited to have a dog round Because this one entire family is dogs Oh, it's kind of funny. I mean the Medicaid themselves before they they went You know All right kids eat these gummies Hey kids don't forget your zambia Think what do we do? Oh, no, just make you up truck. Really go watch fireworks No, don't speak with drugs um So they culminate with this fireworks display. It's so cool and so epic and now they've done so many fun things And now we get to like hear about this little adventure this little recap as as the book of of Bob Bilby gets brought in and bingo gets to tell the class about their day And this is Bob visiting daddy from Steve on he let Bob turn the siren on but it was very loud This is Bob and I getting a book out of the lobby the end Well bingo it looks like Bob has had a wonderful time staying with you now. Why don't you give Bob to me? I've stopped it before it gets out I can't do it This is this rinches the heart when he has to let Bob go somewhere else that he's finally realized how to have fun with Bob Bilby All good. Well, like all them to an end Yes, yes, this is true, but it's just this nice culmination of how you know you put the screens away and boom We had this great time. We were present with each other and how awesome that was um And the real dollar I mean, this is the real dollar books This is the real dollar books and we're so we're we so Get this we we talk about a lot in fact. We just talked about this at our men's group last night, but the fact that screens can be so problematic with our kids And the the scene where they're putting all the pictures the first time into the book and Everybody's on on a screen right band. It's on a screen bingo and blue. We are on a screen I'm totally blanked on chilly's name first I can't Just to his chilly's on a Chilly's on a screen. What's not fits? Oh, it's bees except for chilly. She gets me. I'm like spicy. No, that's a that's that's a that's a That's not a name. That's not a name. How about narrow Cardamom cardamom anyways She uh, she's on she's looking at she's watching the field hockey games so they're all on the screens um screens the the truth problem with screens is how much they take us Well really how much they reveal our heart they they betray our heart Uh, we look at things that we like on our screens and we give to those screens so much that we we value our entertainment so much that it takes all of this time and the the reality of life that's happening around us So I I mean, I have a bunch of just quick hit Versus that really underline The the reality of what we do with our time and our material as as what it is because it is worship if it trades Our heart of worship what we spend our time what we spend our energy what we spend our money what we spend our our things towards Betrays what we worship um and and man we are we are just slaves to screens So I'll uh you okay if I read the first one Jess uh sure I'll pull up the next one boom boom boom um Luke 1234 it's a culmination of Jesus Doing some teachings just some of the great The greatest lines in here just talking about provision and how we constantly are looking for material gain So this is focused on that material aspect of what we spend our time trying to get trying to get But yet God closed the the the lilies of the field So much more beautiful than anything we could we could ever hope to accomplish and they like they didn't even earn it God does that and so God it basically For counselors that God is the one who provides And he culminates in Luke chapter 12 here in verse 34 with this with the simple simple sentence where your treasure is There your heart will be also So the things that we're treasureing particularly like when you think about how much time is devoted to our entertainment on our screen We treasure and value it so much and it betrays the heart that is present there Our heart is bent in on what we want to do and how we want to be entertained and how we want to make Make ourselves feel in any given moment and and boy do media companies like social media companies know this In and out And it's it's Such a clear biblical principle that this episode was just betraying their hearts Yeah, the time on the screen it reminds me ironically of Bilbo um You know what it just the Bilbo Bilbo Bob Bobo Baggins um When when Gandalf's trying to trying to get him to leave Haban and he wants him to leave the ring there and then his his countenance changes Regarding the subject of of leaving the ring behind And it's like it's like that's what our screens do to us like It took me a long time To not respond and lash out in anger when Someone tried to lovingly tell me to get off my phone like The first response is like You know, it's not a problem. You know, I'm fine. Like what what do you mean? Like I haven't been on this for a long time But like really you have absolutely no clue how long you've been on your phone because it's designed to get you to forget how long you've been on your phone and It's even with next day. No, it's June the morning and you will not be sleeping today It's like I was just telling you guys last night like my Facebook algorithm. I don't even know what's going on like I'm watching people in like the Amazon forest eat Frogs off a stick and I'm like I didn't even I don't even know why like what why did this come up on my feed? Who thought that I wanted to see this? I'd like to To like to kill them, but I don't want to watch this but then you end up watching it and then it's like you end up watching more And it's like a sheeting rice off a bat like like what you know, it's just like none of this none of it means anything for real life Like yep, and they they they took they took from you Nothing it took from you everything Like praise praise God is for the spread of Christianity through the West because man like I really have a greater appreciation of eating with like forks and spoons like it's it's That's crazy But but the reality is is like you know where you Your heart follows that Like it's it's it is it is a huge distraction. We've got more sugar through. I don't want to Perform a little quick. Just the one but the next one is great. So rocket bro Yeah, so first Corinthians 1031 says whether you eat whether then you eat or drink or whatever you do do all to the glory of God Oh, yeah, and that's that's the culmination verse right the idea that when we are even even our screens We must be leveraging them for the gospel And part of that leverage is going to be to put them Down because the time is the most valuable resource there That we are just wasting ask anyone no ask anyone older than like 60 and you'll you'll learn some valuable lessons about how fast time goes Oh, it's so true and and we only have our we only have so many days Um, which takes us to Psalm 90 verse 12 where you know the psalmist says teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom We're the reminder to count the moments that we have because time for us on this temporal plane In which God has given us this day to live as if it is eternity for his kingdom But our days temporarily are numbered and we should not waste them. We should not waste our days What a waste it is to can speak consumed with media and entertainment that that ultimately Matters not and I'm not saying you can't even redeem that I'd love to redeem that with my family where we watch a movie and we Literally talk about the premises behind it and what was right and what was wrong and you know obedience disobedience or un glorifying actions or you know the the big story through lines that go through of you know redemption and sacrifice So that's great, but that is such a that that should be a small part of of our lives together Instead so often the screens are a much bigger part of our life Yeah, and then wrapping up with Ephesians 5 Um verse 15 through 16 says therefore look carefully how you walk not as unwise, but as wise redeeming the time because the days are evil and I like the I like where there's a verse goes because We we must we must be able to redeem that time because there's there's a war going on a war for the hearts and minds Not only of ourselves, but also for our children And when we forget that we we let our children and ourselves be discipled by All sorts of competing interests Um even within a 45 second span just browsing reels on Facebook. There's um tons of different lies and propaganda that social media is constantly feeding us Even if it's just out outrage news, you know articles, you know um You know they just constantly trying to distract you and you you forget you forget that you're in a war um So we have to walk wise we have to walk wisely About these things and you know if if you're If you want to make a change and you're and you're struggling with that you can just message us Messages on carpefeet a message us on uh blue in the bible on instagram or facebook or wherever We'd love to be able to share with you things that we found helpful for ourselves and our families um, you know Or ask ask the people in your in your community group or your life group or Whatever it's it's something that we need to not be ashamed of talking about because we fail at it um the shame of living and failure is Um probably One of the most detrimental things that a Christian can do we we we must not be afraid to bring that failure into the light because when we bring it into the light Um earlier on in the fusions explains it it loses its power When we do that so don't be ashamed of doing that don't be ashamed of asking for help in that it's it there's there's There's commonality in almost anybody who lived who's living in the 21st century with struggling with this so um Definitely ask for help And as a bonus what is a pro tip that you have Jesse about screens and children and and their implementation or how to use them or Or what what would your communication be um? Well most, I mean my my oldest is 12 so nobody has a cell phone as of right now We have shared family tablets um, and we have TVs and we have video games So whenever um Um We do utilize some screens in our homeschooling um, that's that's Clearly because our family is large and it does help save time That so that a kid can be doing schoolwork on on a tablet fairly independently um through guided lessons That's that's actually a huge help and a benefit and a way to really redeem screens But in terms of um, just like My kids love gravitating towards mindless YouTube shows So we really try to limit those um And we tell them we're like look watch something that's not mindless for the next 20 minutes And they know exactly what that means They're gonna turn on a documentary or they're gonna turn on ride in the dance or they're gonna turn on You know a certain shows that just are not mindless Um, they they know that there's a category of thing that is mindlessness and they know that that time is extremely limited um So I mean, it's really just really just not not letting we do not bring tablets to Out to eat we don't bring tablets to the dinner table. We don't um, you know, we don't use them to parent our kids We parent our kids um So there's just a couple a couple ways, you know, make sure You have clear categories of things with your kids and use Use the right tool for the right time, I guess not just the same tool for every situation like what band I was doing in this in this episode Yeah, and I'll throw in two quick hitters one uh communal communal usage of screens is essential um You i don't know that like I would I never want my kids to have a a TV or a screen like just independently in their room communal Kitchen table couch next to you watching tv together. It should be always in community that allows that that allows for responsibility and accountability um That includes like, you know utilizing uh accountability software just because the internet is a is a heart just a Like everything else we've done is man. We just destroyed it just royally Uh with our sin so so that that can also be helpful um And what's a communal um and and then also like just make sure like I have I'm on the other spectrum So I have a 17 year old and a 15 year old and then I also have an 11 year old but With the 17 to 15 year olds they want to use it so accountability software is helpful because it allows you as a parent to be able to see what's going on And also just have access to the logins if you're ever going to let them have social media when that time is appropriate So that you are also monitoring what's going on and this isn't so you can spy on your kids I think that's a lot of sometimes what you know can be thought but actually it's to protect your kids there is Like just a vicious strain of predatory Actions that have an on social media and you are called to be your protector and you must also protect that space So just just know that and at the same time like philosophically Just acknowledge that how you're parenting it like When you see them using the screen how they're using the screen Like it's not just them It's also what what foundation and have you built as a parent and where and it can also help you to see like where have I gone wrong What do we need to reel in what do we need to change how do we need to adjust what am I not actually addressing With the glory of the gospel and God's truth From his word so that we can redeem everything right redeem all the time numbering our days including how we use screens And media entertainment. So it's it's very important and I think this was I hope that was helpful Yeah, ask us any questions We're pretty open books And just kind of parenting through it actively And engaging in it and so we can all work together and use your community like the the cloud of witnesses We've been given in the states The gift of the riches of grace that is the church utilize that Because you're not the only word look you're not alone. We are all parents Trying to glorify God together and we all have the same questions We all have similar failures and we can all help each other grow And in turn benefit our families Yes, I mean, I think this might be the longest episode of blue in the Bible that we've done We got like 40 minutes. Yeah, 45 Oh, we gotta cut this off. I'm so sorry It was Jesse ranting about billbees and assorted books from our childhood. I apologize Did you feel that bus running over there? I take I take full responsibility Because you know what you're you've given me no other option but to do that so Skillet of you very badly to take your responsibility um But uh that is it and uh as we say at the end of every blue in the bible We'll see you next time kids Catch you on the flip side Well
